Twisted Vortex

The Ambisonic Cube is an immersive audio system which can be experienced either over a multichannel loudspeaker setup or binaural over headphones. In collaboration with the IEM, the five Sound Design students composed their first spatial 3D audio piece during the spatialisation lecture by M. Frank. These compositions are on the website as a binaural mix, for the real immersive experience please wear headphones.

An immersive music experience – that was the intention of this production. A drum machine, software instruments and a hardware synthesizer, electronic bass and a microphone as an additional sound source make the mix complete. The third dimension helps the mix to have sounds placed more distinctively, which helps the immersive feeling and localization of the sound sources. The dynamically moving sounds are combined with static elements like the drums and bass, which create a stable frame for the whole piece.
